biography
I started writing when I was a
teenager by
imitating
Rush lyrics. I
wanted to be a modern day warrior with a mean
mean stride, but instead I
earned two English degrees, married, reproduced,
landed a responsible job, began remodeling houses,
raised kids, and took a break from writing because I was tired
all the time.
In the mid-2000's, I started writing
seriously again. I finished a book, Cul De Sac,
inappropriate stories about suburban guys, some of
which are in the
Writings section of
this website.
Cul De Sac
will be published by
Sententia Books
in Spring of 2012.
I have published in Great
River Review, Identity Theory, Minnesota Monthly,
Night Train, Pindeldyboz (web), The Rake,
Sententia, and Word Riot, among other places. I
am the winner of a 2006-07 Loft Mentor Series
Fiction Award and the 2008 Third Coast
Creative Nonfiction Contest. I was nominated for the
Best New American Writers of 2009.
I have been teaching college English for fourteen years and live
in the American suburbs. I do not live in a cul de sac, but I
can see one from my house.
